Overprint Issues
This series was issued in July 1941. These were the only stamps issues solely for use in German-occupied Latvia. By late 1941, Latvia was combined with German-occupied Lithuania, Estonia, and parts of the Soviet Union into the German Ostland region, and new Ostland stamps were issued for use throughout.
The stamps are issues of the Soviet Union overprinted “LATVIJA 1941. 1. VII” (Latvia 1 July 1941).
Two denominations were also printed on carton paper.
