Truk

Following Spain’s 1898 defeat in the Spanish-American War, it sold its remaining Pacific possessions, including the Carolines, to Germany.

Truk was the largest settlement in central Karolinen, and the Truk Atoll was a center of copra production for Germany.

A post office was opened on the island on 1 May 1905, and it remained open until Truk was occupied by Japanese forces on 11 October 1914.  Due to disruptions in steamship service to the islands, the last known mail departing Truk was posted in August 1914.
